Psychologist, university professor, and singer Marianita Ortaça has been selected as the patroness for the 2026 Farroupilha Celebrations.
Marianita Ortaça, a psychologist, university professor, and singer, has been appointed as the patroness of the 2026 Farroupilha Celebrations in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The decision was made during a meeting of the event’s organizing committee, led by the State Department of Culture. Marianita, hailing from São Luiz Gonzaga in the Missions region, follows in the footsteps of her father, Pedro Ortaça, who is known for his contributions to the promotion of Gaucho and missionary culture.
Her selection comes in light of this year's celebration theme, 'Jesuit and Guarani Heritage in Rio Grande do Sul: 400 years of culture and tradition,' which commemorates the 400 years since the establishment of the Jesuit missions by the Guarani in the state. This theme highlights the significance of cultural legacy and the blending of diverse cultural influences in the region, with Marianita being recognized for embodying these attributes through her work and dedication to local culture.
Denise Gress, the president of the organizing committee, emphasized that Marianita represents various facets of the state's culture, making her a fitting choice for this honorary role. The appointment of Marianita Ortaça as the patroness not only celebrates her individual achievements but also aims to shine a light on the rich cultural narratives and traditions of Rio Grande do Sul, steeped in history and community significance.
