Beach Boys icon Bruce Johnston steps away from band after 60 years
Bruce Johnston, after 60 years with the Beach Boys, is stepping back to focus on songwriting and speaking engagements.
Bruce Johnston, a key member of the Beach Boys for six decades, has announced that he will be stepping away from the band. At 82 years old, Johnston has expressed that he is not retiring from music but rather entering a new chapter in his life. He shared his excitement about focusing on songwriting, stating, 'It’s time for Part Three of my lengthy musical career!' Johnston plans to continue creating music while also exploring new opportunities in public speaking.
He is inspired by Hollywood icons like Cary Grant, who transitioned to a speaking career after his film work. Johnston aims to use his experiences to engage audiences through speaking engagements, a venture he is developing with the help of John Stamos. In addition to speaking, Johnston hinted that he might perform some of his beloved songs during these events, including 'Disney Girls' and 'I Write the Songs!'
While departing from the Beach Boys, Johnston reassured fans that he would still remain connected with the band that has played a significant role in his life and career. His announcement signifies not only a personal evolution but also underscores the ongoing legacy of the Beach Boys and their impact on American music culture.
