In Los Realejos, Tenerife, a dragon tree estimated to be over 200 years old fell during a severe storm that brought heavy rains and strong winds to the Canary Islands. The tree was located near the San Francisco cemetery and, in addition to the destruction of the tree itself, its collapse impacted a wall, part of a nearby home, street lighting, and six parked cars. The incident highlights the intense weather experienced in the region as a result of Storm Regina.

Local leaders, including Manuel Domínguez, the Vice President of the Canary Government and former mayor of Los Realejos, expressed their sorrow over the loss of the tree, describing it as a significant cultural symbol for the community. Domínguez reflected on how the dragon tree had been a part of the everyday lives of generations, including his own, illustrating its importance beyond its physical presence. He lamented that the loss of such a historical landmark is not just a matter of nature but also a blow to the collective memory of the residents.

Rosa Dávila, the President of the Tenerife Cabildo, echoed similar sentiments, indicating that the tree's fall represents a deep and personal loss to the community of Los Realejos.
