ANP fines Petrobras for failures in Foz do Amazonas rig; fine could reach R$ 2 million
The ANP has fined Petrobras for operational failures at the ODN-2 rig in the Foz do Amazonas region, with potential fines reaching R$ 2 million.
The National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) in Brazil has issued a fine against Petrobras due to operational failures involving the ODN-2 rig, which is currently drilling the first deep-water well in the Foz do Amazonas basin. This action is part of a lengthy and controversial environmental licensing process associated with drilling in this region. Although there was a previous incident in January that led to the suspension of drilling due to a fluid spill, the ANP clarified that the current infraction notice is unrelated to that spill and is specifically due to lapses in the inspection and maintenance procedures for fire-fighting pumps aboard the vessel.
