Gallery: The focus of Katriin Mudist's new exhibition is 24 doorstoppers
Katriin Mudist's new exhibition 'Temporary Solution' features 24 doorstoppers collected primarily from Estonian cultural institutions.
Katriin Mudist has opened a unique exhibition titled 'Temporary Solution' at the small gallery in ARS building, centering around 24 doorstoppers collected from various cultural institutions in Estonia. These doorstoppers, which were gathered over a year, include wooden pieces of appropriate size, occasional handy stones or blocks, as well as items like a small hand grenade and an outdated fire extinguisher.
Mudist emphasizes that while doorstoppers are typically sought out for immediate need, they often unintentionally become permanent solutions. The exhibition captures a fleeting moment of annoyance or disruption, when something familiar does not go as expected. Through these doorstoppers, Mudist visualizes the scenario where an institutional worker fails to find the usual doorstop, highlighting how these little annoyances are easily overlooked but also very much present in our everyday lives.
This exhibition draws attention to the mundane yet significant details of daily existence, encouraging viewers to reflect on the role of these simple objects in navigating the routines of life. Mudist's work opens a dialogue about the transient nature of solutions and how our expectations shape our experiences with the seemingly trivial elements in our surroundings.
