CAF postpones Women's Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco due to 'unforeseen circumstances'
The CAF has postponed the Women's Africa Cup of Nations, originally scheduled for March, to July and August due to unforeseen circumstances.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced that the Women's Africa Cup of Nations will be postponed to July and August, ending weeks of speculation over whether the tournament would take place as scheduled this month. The tournament serves as a qualifier for the 2027 Women's World Cup, with four African teams set to qualify automatically, while two others will compete in global playoffs for a spot in the finals. The event was originally slated to run from March 17 to April 3, 2026, but the host country Morocco requested a change in dates, citing what the CAF referred to as 'unforeseen circumstances'. In a statement released on Thursday, the CAF mentioned that after discussions with FIFA and other stakeholders, the decision was made to reschedule the tournament to ensure its success amidst these unforeseen challenges. CAF affirmed that preparations for the tournament are ongoing, ensuring that all parties involved are committed to making this important women's competition a success, thus highlighting the significance of the event in boosting women's football in Africa.
