A couple suspected of throwing a cat from a moving motorcycle in Valença do Piauí has been released after a custody hearing and will respond to animal cruelty charges while free.

In Valença do Piauí, Brazil, a man and a woman accused of throwing a cat from a motorcycle were released after a custody hearing. The incident occurred on Monday, with the pair allegedly caught on video laughing about their actions while committing what is considered animal cruelty. District delegate Maycon Braga cited that they had been caught in the act and faced charges for their cruel actions against the animal.

The police were alerted to the situation after disturbances were reported about social media posts that featured images suggesting animal abuse. Investigations led officers to the suspects' home, where the woman admitted to the authenticity of the video, claiming that she and her cousin were merely trying to leave the cat at the house of a friend when it was thrown from the moving motorbike.

During their interrogation, both suspects refused to give statements to the Civil Police. Despite their imposition of temporary detention, they were released after the hearing, revealing the complexities and challenges in handling cases of animal cruelty in Brazil, raising concerns about accountability and the legal consequences of such actions.
