Journalist from Futurock assaulted outside of the radio: "I asked myself if I was attacked for wearing a pink shirt"

Lucas Román, a journalist from the program Furia Bebe, reported being assaulted in a homophobic attack after leaving the Futurock radio station in Buenos Aires.

On March 5, Lucas Román, a columnist from the Argentine program Furia Bebe, shared his experience of a violent homophobic attack that occurred in the Almagro neighborhood of Buenos Aires. While leaving the radio station on Monday, Román was punched in the face three times by a man who approached him without uttering a word. The incident left him with visible injuries, including a swollen eye, which he showcased during the broadcast of his program the following day.

Román further revealed that he did not recognize the assailant and has since filed a police report regarding the incident. To seek assistance, he is also in contact with the Centre for Legal and Social Studies (CELS), an organization dedicated to defending human rights in Argentina. His commentary on the attack suggests a broader concern about the increasing violence against the LGBTQ+ community in a country that has made strides in legal rights but still faces societal challenges.

The incident sheds light on the ongoing issue of homophobia and violence in Argentina, which, despite progress, still sees violent expressions of intolerance. Román's experience serves as a reminder of the vulnerability many face in public spaces, and the need for continued vigilance and advocacy for the rights of marginalized communities.
