Chania: They were trafficking drugs - Planning incendiary acts against police officers
A criminal group involved in drug trafficking and planning incendiary actions against police officers has been dismantled in Chania, Greece.
The Police Directorate for Crime Investigation in Chania has dismantled a criminal group engaging in both drug trafficking and preparatory actions for incendiary attacks targeting police officers. Two 24-year-old Greek men were arrested in connection with the group, while a third member, a 23-year-old foreign national already incarcerated, faces charges related to the organization, possession of incendiary materials, drug trafficking, and planning attacks against police officers.
According to the police investigation, the two arrested individuals were operating under the guidance of the imprisoned 23-year-old, through which they transported and distributed illegal drugs and monetary sums via online applications. Alongside their drug activities, they were also planning incendiary attacks aimed at police personnel. The arrests were made on Tuesday night by the Motorcycle Patrol Unit of the Immediate Action Department after tracking down the suspects.
This operation highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement in Greece to combat organized crime, particularly groups involved in narcotics and violent acts against police. The rising trend of drug-related crime and attempts to intimidate law enforcement officials can pose significant challenges to public safety and police operations in the region, prompting stronger measures from authorities to address these serious offenses.
