Zelensky – Regarding ‘Druzba’: It doesn't mean that everything destroyed will be restored
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that while the Druzba oil pipeline may be ready for operation in a month and a half, it does not guarantee the complete restoration of everything that was destroyed.
During a meeting with government officials, which was observed by journalists, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky discussed the Druzba oil pipeline, indicating that although it might be operational soon, complete restoration of the damage incurred due to Russian attacks is not guaranteed. His reluctance to restart the pipeline stems from concerns over the implications of moving forward with Russian oil supplies to Europe.
Zelensky highlighted the necessity of operating the Druzba pipeline to secure the release of a €90 billion European Union loan to Kyiv, which Hungary has been blocking. This presents a complex dilemma for Ukraine, as maintaining international financial support is critical, while resuming Russian oil supplies raises ethical and strategic considerations.
The pipeline has faced damage due to a Russian strike on January 27 near the city of Brody in Ukraine, prompting Kyiv to suspend its operations. Slovak and Hungarian officials, however, assert that the pipeline has already been repaired, prompting further debate between the involved nations about the status and future of the Druzba pipeline.
