The Central Finland District Court has ordered the detention of a man who threatened others with a knife in the Sale grocery store in Keltinmäki, Jyväskylä, last Sunday. The man faces serious charges, including robbery, violent resistance against an officer, and making illegal threats. Police were alerted after numerous reports of a man pursuing a woman in the neighborhood, which eventually led her to seek refuge in the store.

The incident escalated quickly when the man, not only shirtless but armed with a knife, entered the shop, brandishing the weapon at a customer while attempting to steal a pair of earbuds from another. The situation required police intervention, and when the officers arrived, the man failed to comply with their orders. In an attempt to subdue him, police resorted to using their firearms, resulting in the man sustaining injuries and subsequently being taken to the hospital and detained upon recovery.

The use of police firearms during the arrest is currently under investigation by the Prosecutor General's Office Police Crime Unit. This incident has heightened concerns regarding public safety and underscores the challenges faced by law enforcement when dealing with armed individuals in public spaces. The local community is likely to seek answers regarding the circumstances that led to such a precarious situation in a neighborhood grocery store.
