Tourist stole Las Vegas hotel flamingo before laughing as he 'tortured' bird

A Canadian man has been charged with animal torture after breaking into a flamingo habitat at a Las Vegas hotel and harming the birds.

Mitchell Fairbarn, a 33-year-old Canadian, has been charged with multiple counts of animal cruelty following an incident at the Flamingo Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. He allegedly broke into the hotel's flamingo enclosure early Tuesday morning, leading to calls from hotel officials to law enforcement about the mistreatment of the birds. CCTV footage captured Fairbarn entering the habitat before he attacked several Chilean flamingos, including one he pinned down and squeezed aggressively while attempting to remove it from the enclosure.

The incident reportedly took place around 5 am, and fairbarn's actions resulted in injuries to the flamingos. During the ordeal, he was seen carrying a flamingo in a shirt as he exited the enclosure and continued to wrestle with the bird in the hotel corridor. His behavior, which officials described as sadistic, has raised significant concerns regarding animal welfare and the responsibility of establishments like hotels in protecting wildlife, especially in areas like Las Vegas where tourist attractions often feature exotic animals.

Fairbarn faces four felony counts of animal abuse, underlining a zero-tolerance stance by authorities toward animal cruelty. This case not only highlights individual accountability for animal mistreatment but also prompts a broader dialogue about the ethical implications of keeping wild animals in tourist attractions. As investigations continue, there are calls for stricter regulations to ensure the safety and well-being of animals in such environments.
