NATO Secretary General: The alliance is not participating in the war but supports Washington militarily

The NATO Secretary General stated that the alliance is not involved in the military campaign against Iran but provides member states with support for U.S. operations.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has clarified that the alliance is not conducting military actions in the ongoing campaign against Iran, yet the support offered by its member states significantly enhances the United States' capacity to carry out its military operations effectively. He emphasized that Europe’s security is directly linked to the outcomes of this conflict following a recent attack by the U.S. and Israel on Iran that has led to numerous casualties, including senior Iranian officials.

In a televised interview, Rutte outlined that had the U.S. not made its recent decisions, the risks would have escalated, especially with Iran nearing the possession of nuclear and missile capabilities that could threaten both the Middle East and European nations. He pointed out that the current military campaign is still in its infancy, making it challenging to forecast its ultimate resolution. However, he acknowledged a clear consensus on the necessity of preventing Iran from posing future threats to its neighbors or exporting chaos and terrorism, particularly to European countries.

Rutte's statements reflect NATO's cautious yet supportive role in the complex geopolitical dynamics surrounding Iran and emphasize the alliance's strategic concerns regarding international security, especially the potential for Iran's military advancements to destabilize not only the region but also the global stage. This situation underscores the importance of NATO's solidarity and collective defense measures amidst escalating tensions in the Middle East, which have direct implications for European security as well.
