AN: Haikin misses the cup match against Molde
Glimt's star goalkeeper Nikita Haikin will not participate in the cup match against Molde due to precautionary measures ahead of the upcoming Champions League match against Sporting Lisboa.
Bodø/Glimt's star goalkeeper, Nikita Haikin, has been confirmed to miss the cup match against Molde by the club's media manager, Simen Pedersen. This decision was first reported by Avisa Nordland, with veteran sports journalist Freddy Toresen suggesting that the absence is primarily a precautionary measure to ensure Haikin is fit for the more important upcoming match against Sporting Lisboa in the Champions League round of 16 scheduled for next Wednesday.
Toresen speculated that had Bodø/Glimt been facing Sporting today, Haikin would likely have played, indicating that resting him now is a strategic choice by the coaching staff. The decision to hold Haikin back was reportedly made just prior to the team’s travel to Molde, underscoring the importance the club places on ensuring their first-choice goalkeeper is fully prepared for the high-stakes Champions League clash ahead.
With Haikin sidelined, head coach Kjetil Knutsen will need to find alternative options for the goalkeeper position, as the team prepares to face Molde without their primary shot-stopper. While the identity of the replacement is yet to be confirmed, it is anticipated that Julian Faye Lund, the backup goalkeeper, will take over the responsibilities in goal against Molde, presenting both a challenge and an opportunity for the team as they navigate the domestic cup competition amidst their European aspirations.
