Court Extends the Detention of Beno Mikutavičius, Suspected of Double Murder

A Lithuanian court has extended the detention of Beno Mikutavičius, who is suspected of murdering two young women, for an additional three months.

The Kaunas District Court in Lithuania has granted a request from the prosecutor to extend the detention of Beno Mikutavičius for three more months, citing concerns that he might flee, hide, or commit further crimes. The prosecutor submitted this request on February 25, and the court ruled in favor of the extension on February 27, thereby extending his detention from March 5 to June 5.

Beno Mikutavičius, born in 1996 and previously living in Kaunas, is accused of the cold-blooded murders of two young women on December 4 last year. The victims – his cousin and a real estate broker – were killed in separate incidents, with the murders taking place at the cousin's home and during a property showing. The younger victim was born in 2003 and the older one in 2001, underlining the tragic loss of young lives involved in this case.

This case has drawn significant attention in Lithuania, with the court's decision to extend the detention reflecting the serious nature of the allegations against Mikutavičius. The ongoing judicial proceedings will determine the future course of this high-profile criminal case, as investigators and authorities continue to evaluate the evidence pertaining to the murders and the broader implications for public safety in the region.
