Picasso? How about a Scottie Pippen?

A former art space in New York has transformed into a basketball court featuring memorabilia from NBA star Scottie Pippen.

A well-known space on Madison Avenue, which previously showcased paintings by Gustav Klimt and Pablo Picasso, has recently undergone a transformation into a basketball court. This change coincides with a significant auction where a Klimt painting gained recognition as the second most expensive artwork ever sold. Until March 10, visitors can engage in games while exploring the new arrangement that merges the worlds of fine art and basketball.

The venue, which used to be part of the Whitney Museum of American Art, is now adorned with exhibition cases displaying uniforms, shoes, and basketballs used by Scottie Pippen, who was a vital player for the Chicago Bulls in the 1990s alongside Michael Jordan. This unique exhibition features 50 items from Pippen's career that he had previously stored away. Sotheby’s, which currently occupies the building, has redefined the space to illustrate how top-notch art can coexist with high-level sports.

Sotheby’s promotes this initiative as a "top-tier art meets top-tier sports" exhibition, interpreting this temporary transformation as a reinvention of a historic cultural space in New York. This endeavor emphasizes the evolving nature of cultural institutions and their ability to adapt to new themes and audiences, creating an intersection between sports history and art appreciation.
