Mali: despite the jihadist embargo, a fairly controlled Ramadan

In Mali, the Ramadan season is being managed relatively well by authorities despite ongoing jihadist fuel embargoes causing supply issues.

In Mali, just over two weeks into Ramadan, fuel supply continues to be very fluctuating and insufficient; however, transitional authorities are managing to maintain a form of vital minimum for the population. Food prices remain stable despite the tough conditions. This control over the challenges faced by the populace has become the norm since the jihadist fuel embargo was imposed six months ago. Fuel trucks are still operating under military escort, and since the beginning of Ramadan on February 17, 2026, no convoy attacks have been reported. In Bamako, residents note that while gasoline is available, diesel fuel has been critically lacking for several days now. Furthermore, electricity supply is severely limited, with residents managing only about six hours of power daily. As the fasting period coincides with power shortages in some areas, it's a continuous struggle for Malian citizens to adapt to their reality. Although they are facing significant logistical challenges during Ramadan, the government's efforts reflect a resilience that many hope will carry through this period of hardship and beyond.
