Criminal proceedings closed regarding the baby corpse found at the "Ķīvītes" landfill
The criminal investigation concerning the baby found at the Ķīvītes landfill has been closed as no crime was determined to have been committed against the child, as confirmed by expert analysis.
The criminal proceedings related to the discovery of a newborn girl’s body at the Ķīvītes landfill have been concluded, with investigators reporting that there was no foul play involved. Expert testimonies established that the infant was stillborn, thus ruling out any criminal actions against the child. This closure of the case reflects the legal team's assessment and the findings of forensic examinations, emphasizing the tragic circumstances surrounding the case.
The incident occurred on March 7, 2024, when the body of the newborn was found in the sorting plant operated by SIA "Eko Kurzeme" (now known as "Eco Baltia vide") within the territory of "Liepājas RAS". Following this discovery, the police launched a criminal investigation to ascertain the circumstances leading to the infant's presence at the landfill. However, the investigation reached a standstill after the expert analysis cleared any involvement of crime or negligence that could be assigned to the child's demise.
In a related incident in May 2024, another infant body was found in a waste container in Ventspils, leading to another criminal investigation that was subsequently closed due to similar findings. In both cases, the mothers of the infants have not been located, raising concerns about the lack of proper prenatal care and the implications of women possibly avoiding registration during pregnancy. These incidents shed light on critical issues regarding maternal health and social safety for vulnerable populations.
