R. Kaunas says that Lithuania has not received a request from the USA to assist in the conflict with Iran

Lithuanian Minister R. Kaunas stated that the country has not received any requests from the USA for assistance regarding the Iran conflict.

In a recent statement to the press, Lithuanian Minister R. Kaunas clarified that Lithuania has not been approached by the United States with any specific requests for assistance related to the ongoing conflict with Iran. He emphasized that while there are continuous discussions at a technical level among military leaders from various NATO countries, including France and Germany, it is crucial to interpret these communications carefully. Kaunas underscored Lithuania's commitment to NATO's defensive alliance, stating that if NATO were to be attacked, Lithuania would fulfill its obligations accordingly.

Kaunas further explained that discussions around the potential involvement in conflicts should be approached with caution and a reduction in political interpretation, as these are sensitive topics. He pointed out that Lithuania is not involved in any military operations concerning Iran and does not plan to engage in any such activities. He reiterated that Lithuania would consider any requests from NATO member states if they arise, but at present, the focus remains on the nation’s defensive role within NATO rather than involvement in external conflicts.

The minister's comments come amid a complex geopolitical landscape where NATO's stance and regional security are being scrutinized. Lithuania's position highlights the careful balancing act of nation-states within the alliance, ensuring that membership obligations are honored while also maintaining a clear distinction between defense and potential military engagement in international conflicts. The emphasis on Lithuania's non-involvement in the Iran conflict serves to reaffirm its defensive posture as part of NATO's collective security framework.
