Everyday he runs a large company, but his hobby is a cherry orchard with a rich harvest. The story of the Dzintars and Līči families
Dzintars, who runs a large company, dedicates his leisure time to cultivating a cherry orchard that has become a family endeavor with increasing yields.
In Latvia, Dzintars manages a large business but finds solace in his hobby—growing cherries in an orchard that involves his entire family. Over time, the initial harvest, which barely filled a car trunk, has expanded to tons of cherries. This cherry farming, located in the picturesque surroundings of Abavas valley between Kandava and Sabile, has not only become a family passion but also a means to strengthen their familial ties over the summers, even as the children embark on their own life paths.
Dzintars shares the backstory of how he chose this location, reflecting on the 2009 financial crisis that prompted him and his wife to seek out land outside the city for their future home. On a dark February evening, the couple discovered property that was available due to the economic downturn, where previously everything was priced astronomically high. Despite the neglected state of the land at the time, with overgrown bushes and waist-high grass, they felt an immediate connection and certainty that this would be their piece of land.
As they have transformed the abandoned property into a thriving cherry orchard, it represents not only a fruitful hobby but also a testament to the resilience and dedication of the family. The communal effort in agriculture reinforces their bonds and showcases the connection between family, land, and the joy of working together for a shared goal in Latvia's scenic countryside.
