T. Theodorikakos: Prepared emergency measures plan for consumer protection
The Greek Minister of Development, Takis Theodorikakos, announced that the government is ready to implement emergency regulatory measures to protect consumers amid concerns over impacts from Middle Eastern conflicts on the economy.
Greek Minister of Development, Takis Theodorikakos, stated that the Ministry has developed a series of emergency regulatory measures aimed at consumer protection and is poised to implement them pending a comprehensive government decision. He highlighted the ongoing monitoring of developments in the Middle East and their potential repercussions on the economy and the market as a top priority for the government.
The minister expressed concerns regarding the prevailing climate of anxiety and uncertainty in the broader region, which he believes necessitates serious and responsible government responses, continuous vigilance, and monitoring. He indicated that if military operations in the Middle East persist for several weeks, there is a substantial likelihood of negative effects on the global economy, particularly within Europe, given that the region is a key source of energy resources.
Theodorikakos emphasized that approximately one-quarter of global energy raw materials originate from the Middle Eastern area, underscoring the importance of these developments in shaping economic conditions not just locally but across Europe. The government's proactive stance reflects an understanding of the interconnected nature of global markets and the potential crisis that could arise from geopolitical tensions.
