Gitanas Nausėda discussed support for Ukraine and the situation in the Middle East with the EVT chairman
Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda emphasized the importance of continued EU support for Ukraine and addressing security concerns in the Middle East during his discussions with the chairman of the EVT.
The President's Office of Lithuania reported that President Gitanas Nausėda highlighted the urgent need for sustained and comprehensive EU support for Ukraine. He specifically called for decisive actions regarding further financing for Ukraine by urgently finalizing a loan agreement for 90 billion euros and implementing a 20th sanctions package against Russia. Furthermore, he stressed the importance of commencing discussions on Ukraine's EU membership, aiming for it to join by 2030. This dialogue comes in preparation for the upcoming EVT meeting scheduled for March 19-20 in Brussels.
In addition to Ukraine, Nausėda addressed the deteriorating security situation in the Middle East, particularly following the collapse of negotiations regarding Iran's nuclear and missile programs. He pointed out that these developments pose increased threats to both regional and international security. The Lithuanian president underscored the importance of coordination within the EU to ensure the safety of its citizens and to facilitate their evacuation from the region if necessary.
This conversation reflects Lithuania's proactive stance on EU security and defense issues, where Nausėda aims to bolster the EU's commitment to Ukraine while simultaneously addressing escalating security routines connected with the Middle East. The implications of these discussions signify not only Lithuania's growing engagement in EU matters but also its alignment with broader European strategies for stability and security in geopolitically sensitive areas.
