Alarm of the services. "Risk of a connection between antagonists and Islam"

Italian intelligence services warn of a possible alliance between radical Islamists and anarchist groups following recent events in Iran.

Italian intelligence services have raised concerns about the potential for a partnership between radical Islamist groups and anarchist factions, particularly in the wake of the recent attacks on Iran. Bruno Valensise, the director of AISI, highlighted these fears while presenting the annual security information report in the Italian Parliament. He pointed out that anarcho-insurrectionist activism poses a significant threat in the field of terrorism, emphasizing that authorities will maintain heightened vigilance during upcoming public demonstrations.

In his remarks, Valensise noted that the security services are prioritizing attention toward potential Islamist radicalization among opposition groups, who may attempt to join forces with Islamist factions influenced by Iranian cells. The unrest in Iran has raised alarms about how these movements could escalate into violence, especially with recent geopolitical tensions affecting the region. There is a palpable sense of urgency given the historical context of past collaborations between disparate groups under stress.

Alfredo Mantovano, Italy's undersecretary with intelligence oversight, further explained that the ongoing conflict may exacerbate terrorist risks, although he acknowledged a lack of cohesion among these groups, as their grievances are directed more towards the Iranian regime than towards Palestine. This complexity could inhibit the formation of a unified front but also indicates the potential for unpredictable alliances to form under pressure.
