A man in his 30s arrested for running an Instagram account that threatened to expose private information
A 34-year-old man has been arrested for threatening to expose the personal information of women on Instagram, demanding cryptocurrency in exchange for not doing so.
A 34-year-old man, identified as Kim, has been arrested and handed over to prosecutors for running an Instagram account named 'Ju Club' where he allegedly posted defamatory information and personal details of numerous women, including sex workers, influencers, and private individuals. Since April of last year, he has been accused of posting their real names and photographs along with derogatory comments. Kim reportedly extorted cryptocurrency worth approximately 38 million KRW from victims who sought the removal of these posts.
The case began when police received complaints from victims in June of last year, prompting an investigation. Following a detailed analysis of the site, law enforcement was able to pinpoint Kim as the account operator and apprehended him at the end of last month. Authorities are now expanding their investigation, believing there may be additional accomplices involved in this case.
In addition to pursuing Kim, law enforcement is also tracking down the operator of another similar Instagram account, 'Gangnam Ju', which may be linked to similar activities. This incident highlights the growing concern over online harassment and extortion, particularly in the digital age where social media platforms can facilitate such criminal behavior.
