Fujikyu's Leading Car Derails, No Injuries Among 45 Passengers and Crew
A train derailment occurred in Tsuru City, Yamanashi Prefecture, but thankfully, there were no injuries among the 45 passengers and crew members.
On the afternoon of the 5th, around 2:30 PM, a regular train operated by Fujikyu Railway, which was traveling from Kawaguchiko to Otsuki, derailed near Tanokura Station in Tsuru City, Yamanashi Prefecture. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the 42 passengers and 3 crew members on board. The train was in the process of entering the station when one of the leading carriages lost its wheels from the track, prompting the company to investigate the cause of the derailment.
In response to the incident, Fujikyu Railway temporarily suspended operations on the entire line; however, services between Kawaguchiko and Tsuru City were resumed at 4:20 PM. Meanwhile, passengers traveling between Tsuru City and Otsuki were provided with substitute bus transportation. The derailment also disrupted services from JR East, resulting in the cancellation of several express trains, including the "Fuji Kaiyu" services which were affected for the duration of the disruption.
Witnesses at the scene, including a 17-year-old high school student from Otsuki City, expressed their surprise, noting that it is quite rare for Fujikyu to experience a derailment. As investigations continue, this incident raises concerns about the safety and maintenance of rail services in the region, emphasizing the need for thorough checks and preventive measures to avoid future occurrences.
