On March 4, around 8:30 PM, firefighters were called to an agricultural building in Voveriškiai village, Šiaulių County, due to reports of a fire. Upon arrival, the firefighters found that part of the one-story brick structure was engulfed in open flames. The building housed horses in one section, while the burning section contained a fur dryer and technical facilities. The quick response of the firefighters and the owner's swift action to evacuate the horses were crucial in preventing a larger tragedy.
The property owner successfully led around 15 horses to safety before the flames spread further. However, the fire caused significant damage, with the roof of the affected section being burned and the wooden flooring collapsing. Firefighting efforts were robust, utilizing 11 fire engines and numerous rescuers at the scene to bring the blaze under control. The fire was extinguished just before 1 AM, minimizing potential loss of life and further property damage.
This incident highlights the importance of community response and preparedness in dealing with emergencies, especially in rural areas where agricultural buildings can be at risk due to fire. While the structural losses are unfortunate, the priorities of saving lives, particularly the horses, were upheld, which showcases a commendable effort from both the property owner and the firefighting team involved in the operation.
