Iran, Meloni: "Italy is not at war and we don’t want to get involved in one"

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni asserts that Italy is not at war and aims to avoid involvement in the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, particularly regarding Iran's military actions.

In a recent statement to RTL 102.5, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni underscored Italy's stance of neutrality in the context of escalating tensions in the Middle East, particularly in relation to Iran’s military aggressions against neighboring countries involved in nuclear negotiations. Meloni expressed concern about the implications these actions may have on Italy and emphasized the importance of resuming nuclear talks with Iran, contingent upon the cessation of its attacks on Gulf states.

Meloni highlighted that any move toward re-engagement in nuclear negotiations will be jeopardized if Iran continues its aggressive behavior, which she described as bombarding neighboring countries. Furthermore, she noted that the current geopolitical situation requires a diplomatic approach, stressing that all parties should adhere to existing bilateral agreements, including those pertaining to the use of American military bases on Italian soil.

The Prime Minister also clarified that there have been no requests for American military support on Italian territory amid the ongoing tensions. The remarks underscore Italy’s strategic position as a NATO member and its aim to navigate the complexities of international relations while maintaining a cautious approach in the face of potential escalations in the region.
