Korean Taekwondo star Lee Dae-hoon has been appointed as the coach of the US national team, with a contract running until the 2032 Olympics.

Lee Dae-hoon, a renowned figure in the world of Taekwondo, has been appointed as the coach of the US Taekwondo national team, as announced by the US Taekwondo Association. The contract will last until 2032, covering both the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and the 2032 Brisbane Olympics. The association highlighted Lee's credentials, citing his status as one of the greatest players in the history of the sport, coupled with his extensive experience in competitive Taekwondo at the highest level.

Having represented South Korea on the national team for eleven years until his retirement after the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Lee boasts impressive achievements including participation in three consecutive Olympics and winning medals in each event. His notable victories include a silver medal at the London 2012 Olympics and a bronze at the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Games. Moreover, he made history as the first Korean Taekwondo athlete to win three consecutive gold medals at the Asian Games from 2010 to 2018. Following retirement, Lee transitioned into coaching, working with the Daejeon Sports Council and later teaching at Dong-A University.

In a video posted on the US Taekwondo Association's official website, Lee expressed his long-standing passion for Taekwondo and his commitment to growing alongside his athletes as a coach. He anticipates that the LA 2028 Olympics will be a significant stage for both the US team and himself. Lee is expected to relocate to the US this summer once his visa procedures are finalized, where he will train at the national team's facility in Charlotte, North Carolina, in preparation for the upcoming Olympics.
