F1 calendar changes for 2026 as three locations added and Qatar misses out
The 2026 F1 calendar sees the addition of three new venues for the sprint format while Qatar is omitted.
The 2026 Formula 1 season is set to bring significant changes, including the introduction of sprint races at three new locations: Montreal, Zandvoort, and Singapore. These venues will debut the sprint format, which has become a staple of some Grand Prix weekends since its inception in 2021. As the new season kicks off at the Australian Grand Prix, excitement builds for the upcoming races that will feature these new sprint events.
Prior to the opening Grand Prix in Australia, the first sprint event is scheduled for Shanghai, occurring the week after the Australian race. This innovative format adds an extra layer of excitement for fans, as it allows more competitive racing and showcases qualifying on Friday, followed by sprint racing on Saturday before the main event on Sunday. The inclusion of these new host cities marks a strategic expansion of the sprint format, intended to enhance fan engagement and broaden the appeal of F1.
Despite these advancements, Qatar will be noticeably absent from the sprint schedule this season. Notably, the country hosted the final race last season, making its exclusion a point of interest. This shift in the calendar reflects ongoing adjustments within the F1 structure as it adapts to new markets and fan expectations, aiming to keep the sport dynamic and fresh for its loyal following.
