Rokas Baciuška after historic victory at Dakar takes on Portugal's tracks: 'A completely different challenge'

Rokas Baciuška, following his victory in the Dakar rally, is preparing for a new challenge in Portugal with a different terrain and racing conditions.

In January, Rokas Baciuška achieved an impressive feat by winning the 'Stock' category in the Dakar rally, marking his fourth Bedouin trophy and his fifth finish in five starts at this iconic marathon. This edition of the rally was also notable for being the first appearance of the 'Defender Rally' team, which debuted with a double victory and dominated all 13 stages of the event.

Post-Dakar, Baciuška is leading the W2RC 'Stock' category standings with 107 points, significantly ahead of his competitors Sara Price and Stephane Peterhansel, who have 87 and 69 points respectively. His recent accomplishments position him well as he shifts focus to the upcoming rally in Portugal, where the challenges will be starkly different compared to those he faced in Saudi Arabia.

The Portuguese rally will present narrow roads and rocky terrains, necessitating a faster pace and different driving strategies. The newly revised route will stretch from Grandola to Loule in the Algarve region and includes five stages totaling 2,175 kilometers, with 1,320 kilometers comprised of timed special stages. Unlike the wide and sandy tracks of the Dakar, drivers will have to navigate narrower and more technical paths, enhancing the complexity of the race.
