Two Burmese Arrested on Suspicion of Cosmetic Surgery Without Medical License
Two Burmese men have been arrested in Japan for allegedly conducting cosmetic surgeries without medical licenses, following complaints from victims about complications resulting from the procedures.
In a crackdown on illegal medical practices, the Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested two Burmese nationals, Chi Chan Ko (41) and another male suspect, for allegedly performing cosmetic surgeries without medical licenses. It was reported that these individuals had carried out multiple procedures on three women of the same nationality in private residences and office buildings in Tokyo between May 2025 and February 2026. Chi has denied any wrongdoing, claiming he has never engaged in medical practices, while the other suspect stated he was merely assisting without directly performing the surgeries.
The case emerged after a victim reported complications to the police, stating that following the procedure, she found it difficult to open her eyes. This incident has raised concerns over the safety and legality of cosmetic surgeries being conducted without proper medical oversight. Authorities have emphasized the dangers of unlicensed medical practices, particularly in the realm of cosmetic surgery, where patients might suffer irreversible consequences from poorly administered procedures.
Furthermore, investigations revealed that the main suspect had been promoting cosmetic medical services through social media platforms, enticing individuals to seek out treatments without regard for legal requirements. The police are continuing to investigate potential accomplices and look into other victims who may have suffered similar experiences, spotlighting the risks that arise from the growing demand for cosmetic procedures, especially among foreign nationals in Japan.
