Shark attack off Queensland island leaves snorkeller wounded

A shark attack off Lady Elliott Island has left a man in his 50s wounded with significant injuries to his arm and minor injuries to his abdomen and hand.

A shark attack occurred near Lady Elliott Island, located in the Southern Great Barrier Reef, injuring a man in his 50s. The incident happened around 8 am, while the victim was snorkelling with two companions. Following the attack, the men swam to shore and sought help from the staff at Lady Elliott Island Eco Resort. The resort staff acted quickly to provide first aid and ensure an emergency response was coordinated effectively.

The victim suffered a significant wound to his arm as well as minor injuries to his abdomen and hand. After receiving initial treatment at the resort, he was transported to Bundaberg Hospital by LifeFlight in a stable condition. The identity of the shark involved in the incident has not been confirmed, prompting resort officials to close the western snorkelling zones as a precautionary measure for safety.
