Han Byeong-do, regarding the release of Kim Seong-tae's transcript, says "It is the National Assembly's duty to investigate the truth of the prosecution's manipulation of charges"
Han Byeong-do emphasizes the need for a parliamentary investigation following the release of Kim Seong-tae's transcript, claiming it reveals serious misconduct by the prosecution.
Han Byeong-do, the floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, has urged the National Assembly to investigate the alleged manipulation of charges by the prosecution following the public release of Kim Seong-tae's transcripts pertaining to the 'double-headed North Korean remittance incident.' During a party policy meeting, he expressed that the recent reports on the transcripts evoke deep anger and state that the reality of politically motivated prosecutions must be thoroughly examined through a national investigation. In the revealed recording, Kim Seong-tae reportedly stated to acquaintances that he never provided money to Lee Jae-myung, a key figure in the case.
Han criticized the prosecution's actions, labeling the pressure to file charges based on circumstantial evidence, without substantial proof, as a blatant case of 'human hunting.' He declared that the prosecution's attempts to leverage state power against individuals cannot be tolerated and insisted that the charges against President Yoon, built on what he described as a 'sandcastle' of false testimonies, should be immediately retracted. He indicated that a full-scale investigation would begin with a report to the National Assembly on the 12th, emphasizing the need to hold the orchestrators of these manipulations accountable.
Other members of the Democratic Party, including Jeon Jun-ho and Han Jeong-ae, supported Han's call for accountability, highlighting that the current prosecution under President Yoon Seok-yeol has been systematically misusing its power against political opponents. They reaffirmed that in order to prevent future occurrences, a thorough investigation is essential, as well as immediate cancellation of frivolous charges. Furthermore, they expressed commitment to advancing the prosecution reform legislation to ensure such manipulations do not recur in the future.
