Kim Jong-un inspects missile launch from destroyer, praises navy’s nuclear armament efforts
Kim Jong-un inspected the missile launch capabilities of a new destroyer during a visit to a shipyard in North Korea, emphasizing the successful nuclear armament of the navy.
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un visited the shipyard in Nampo on March 3 and 4, where he inspected the performance of the new-class multipurpose destroyer named 'Choe Hyun,' the training of the naval personnel, and the launch of strategic cruise missiles from the ship. According to the state-run Korean Central News Agency, Kim expressed satisfaction with the progress in the navy's nuclear armament initiatives, stating that they are being executed flawlessly. He emphasized the need for the construction of two ships of similar capability every year over the next five years, as outlined during a recent Workers' Party congress focused on national defense.
During his visit, Kim also reviewed the ongoing construction of another 'Choe Hyun' class destroyer at the shipyard. The Korean Central News Agency reported that North Korea launched two destroyers of this class last year and aims to complete the ongoing construction of another within the timeframe of the upcoming Party Foundation Day on October 10. Kim’s inspections highlight North Korea's continued focus on bolstering its naval capabilities and strategic military assets amid ongoing tensions on the Korean Peninsula and with the international community.
