F1 team admitted: Drivers face nerve damage

Aston Martin team principal Adrian Newey revealed that drivers Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll may risk nerve damage due to excessive vibrations from the AMR26 car.

Adrian Newey, now serving as the principal for Aston Martin for the first time during the Australian Grand Prix, shared troubling news regarding the performance of their new AMR26 car. He stated that the collaboration between the vehicle and Honda's power unit was not functioning well, causing excessive vibrations that could lead to serious nerve damage for the drivers during the race. This significant concern has arisen with the team facing performance issues in just the early stages of the new season.

Newey pointed out that previously, such vibrations had been attributed mainly to Honda's difficulties, as several of their engines had already failed after only a few laps. The intensity of the problem has become alarming, especially considering that it was meant to be a proud debut for Newey as team principal. The implications of the ongoing engineering challenges could not only affect race outcomes but also pose severe health risks for the drivers if solutions are not swiftly found.

Additionally, Newey mentioned specific limits for each driver, revealing that Alonso could only safely drive around 25 laps before facing a potential permanent nerve injury, while Stroll's limit is even more concerning, capped at just 15 laps. This has raised further questions regarding the reliability and safety of Aston Martin's new design in a highly competitive environment, potentially impacting their strategy and performance for the remainder of the season.
