In 2025, Piauí reported a significant increase in cases of sexual violence against women, with an average of two cases of vulnerable rapes occurring daily.

In 2025, the state of Piauí, Brazil, recorded a troubling statistic of 1,040 cases of vulnerable rapes against women, marking a 7.44% increase from the 968 cases reported in 2024. This rise reflects a larger trend of escalating violence against women in the region. Additionally, there were 341 other cases of rape and 664 instances of sexual harassment, leading to a total of 2,045 reported occurrences of sexual violence against women in the state within the year.

The increase in sexual violence cases has prompted a response from law enforcement, with the Civil Police participating in a nationwide initiative called "Operação Mulher Segura" (Safe Woman Operation). This operation is a task force aimed at enhancing the enforcement of laws protecting women, encouraging the reporting of violence, and completing outstanding arrest warrants for offenders. The operation spans all states in Brazil, indicating a concerted national effort to combat such violence.

Bruna Verena, a delegate from the Women's Police Station, spoke to TV Clube, emphasizing that this operation aims to intensify protection measures for women across the country. This highlights the government's recognition of the urgent need to address violence against women and the importance of cooperative efforts among states to improve safety and legal repercussions for perpetrators.
