The new generation of this family SUV has already challenged the ice.
The second-generation Atlas, known as Teramont in Mexico, showcases its performance in extreme conditions before its official debut at the New York International Auto Show.
A closed event for international press took place an hour north of Montreal, where five camouflaged prototypes of the second-generation Atlas, or Teramont as it's known in Mexico, faced -15°C temperatures to validate the SUV's dynamic behavior ahead of its official debut next April at the New York International Auto Show. This rigorous testing environment aimed to ensure the vehicle's precision and performance under extreme weather conditions, a critical factor for family SUVs intended for various driving scenarios.
The new Atlas retains similar dimensions to its predecessor, indicating that rather than a complete overhaul, it represents a significant facelift or mid-cycle change. The visual design draws inspiration from the new Tiguan generation, incorporating elements like a front lighting system that connects both ends, a redesigned grille, illuminated emblems, and specific details of the R Line version that was tested. These updates emphasize an evolution in design while adhering to familiar proportions and styling cues that current Atlas users are accustomed to.
Built on the latest iteration of the MQB platform, the new Atlas optimizes structural rigidity and calibration, which enhances its overall performance without compromising its recognizable architecture. As it prepares for its unveiling at a prestigious auto show, this testing phase is crucial in setting expectations for its reception in the competitive family SUV market, where factors like reliability and driving performance become paramount in consumer choice.
