2026 Hajj: NAHCON says only medically fit pilgrims will travel

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria emphasizes that only medically fit pilgrims will be allowed to travel for the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage.

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has officially launched the Principal Officers Committee of the National Medical Team in preparation for the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage. This important step demonstrates the Commission's commitment to enhancing health protocols for Nigerian pilgrims, aligning with the regulations set forth by the Government of Saudi Arabia. The inauguration ceremony marks the beginning of extensive medical preparations aimed at ensuring the well-being and safety of pilgrims during the pilgrimage.

Ambassador Ismail Abba Yusuf, NAHCON's Chairman and CEO, highlighted that the health and safety of Nigerian pilgrims is the Commission's top priority. He reaffirmed that only those pilgrims who are certified to be medically fit and free from certain specified diseases will be allowed to undertake the journey to Saudi Arabia for the pilgrimage. This decision is essential to maintaining the health and safety standards expected by Saudi authorities and to ensure a successful pilgrimage experience for Nigerian Muslims.

In addition to the emphasis on medical fitness, the Chairman has mandated that all medical clearance forms must include the registration number of the issuing doctor from the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria. This measure is aimed at maintaining accountability and ensuring the authenticity of the medical assessments. Furthermore, Nigerian pilgrims should be aware that Saudi authorities will conduct random checks to verify the medical fitness of travelers, emphasizing the importance of adhering to these regulations for a safe and successful Hajj experience.
