Georg Koch, a notable former goalkeeper, has sadly passed away at the age of 55 following a protracted struggle with pancreatic cancer, which he publicly disclosed in May 2024. Koch had a distinguished career, playing a total of 213 matches in the first league and 165 in the second from 1990 to 2009, showcasing his talent at multiple clubs including Kaiserslautern, Energie Cottbus, Arminia Bielefeld, and MSV Duisburg, with a special connection to Fortuna Düsseldorf, where he helped the team rise from the third to the first league.

Koch joined Dinamo Zagreb in 2007 as a free agent after parting ways with Duisburg, where he made an impactful contribution by playing in 39 matches and winning both the league title and the cup.
