The UIA intensifies criticism against Milei: now says that more than half of the factories experienced falls in production and sales
The Argentine Industrial Union (UIA) has reported that over half of industrial entrepreneurs experienced declines in production and sales, calling for dialogue with the national government.
The Argentine Industrial Union (UIA) has revealed alarming data, indicating that more than 50% of industrial entrepreneurs are witnessing significant declines in production and sales within their factories. This information was shared following a call for renewed dialogue with the national government, emphasizing the urgent need for economic discussions amidst rising industrial difficulties. The results stem from a recent survey conducted by the UIA involving 644 companies across various sectors and sizes, illustrating the widespread distress felt by the industry in Argentina.
The UIA's latest survey, conducted between February 2 and February 16, highlights a substantial deterioration in manufacturing activity and expectations. The report indicates a marked reduction in production, sales, and employment figures during January when compared to the average of the previous fourth quarter. The industrial performance index, known as the Monitor de DesempeΓ±o Industrial (MDI), dropped to 36.5 points, falling by 7.5 percentage points from the previous survey and remaining below the critical threshold of 50 for the fifteenth consecutive measurement, which indicates a contraction in activity rather than expansion.
This continued decline raises concerns not only for the manufacturing sector but also for the broader Argentine economy, as stagnant industrial activity can hinder economic growth and exacerbate unemployment rates. The UIA emphasizes that timely dialogue with the government is imperative to address the ongoing challenges facing industrialists and to formulate effective policies that can stimulate growth and ensure sustainability within the sector. The implications of these findings might force policymakers to reconsider economic strategies and engage more deeply with the concerns of the industrial community to avert further deterioration in the manufacturing landscape.
