The management of Yaba College of Technology has confirmed the tragic incident involving one of its students, who was shot dead at the WAEC bus stop in Lagos. The victim, a National Diploma student in Business Administration enrolled in the Open Distance Learning program, was reportedly shot after boarding a commercial tricycle. While the school clarified that the murder did not take place on campus, they acknowledged that the deceased was present earlier for an examination.

According to statements from the college's Public Relations Officer, Adams Adekunle, the student and a friend were attempting to travel towards the Mainland when the shooting occurred. As the deceased got into the tricycle first, the friend was close behind and just as he was about to board, gunfire was heard, and the friend discovered the victim had been shot. He quickly sought help from nearby colleagues, highlighting the urgency and confusion that surrounded the incident.

This unfortunate event raises grave concerns regarding safety in public places in Lagos, particularly around areas where students congregate. Despite refuting earlier claims that the shooting happened within the campus, the college feels the impact of this violence deeply. This occurrence prompts a broader discussion on security measures for students and the need for improved safety protocols in and around educational institutions.
