Sources: Russia shot down its own helicopter
Russian air defense reportedly shot down a Mi-8 helicopter in the Rostov region, resulting in three fatalities among its crew.
Multiple Russian sources have reported that the Russian army's own air defense shot down a Mi-8 helicopter in the Rostov region during the night between Tuesday and Wednesday. The independent media outlet Astra states that the helicopter crashed onto a local farmer's property in the village of Dudki, igniting a fire upon impact. No civilians were reported injured, although a barn on the property also caught fire.
According to Astra's information, which is based on local residents and sources within the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, all three individuals aboard the helicopter were killed in the incident. The story has also caught the attention of Russian military bloggers who have attributed the crash to failures in Russia's air defense systems, thereby raising concerns over the reliability of these systems during ongoing military operations.
The governor of the Rostov region, Yuri Slyusar, has remained silent on the details of the nighttime events, only mentioning that Ukraine launched several drone strikes during the same night. This incident emphasizes the challenges faced by the Russian military as it deals with both external threats and internal operational issues, potentially affecting morale and public perception regarding the military's performance in the ongoing conflict with Ukraine.
