The ceremony is expected to begin at 3 PM local time. Dom Mário was appointed by Pope Leo XIV and succeeds Dom Orlando Brandes, who will turn 80 in 2026.

Dom Mário, originally from Itararé, São Paulo, is 59 years old and was previously the archbishop of Cuiabá, Mato Grosso. Throughout his pastoral career, he has been known for his efforts in social causes, especially in support of vulnerable populations. His extensive background includes serving as a bishop in Roraima, demonstrating his commitment to social issues and community engagement.

His educational qualifications include the completion of his studies at the Divino Mestre Major Seminary in the Diocese of Jacarezinho, Paraná, and a master's degree in Moral Theology from the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome. Dom Mário’s new appointment is significant not only for the Archdiocese of Aparecida but also for the community as a whole, given his previous achievements and dedication to social justice.
