Estonian curling duo started the Paralympics successfully

The Estonian wheelchair curling mixed team of Kätlin Riidebach and Ain Villau won their first match at the Paralympic tournament, defeating Great Britain's Joanna Butterfield and Jason Kean.

The Estonian wheelchair curling duo of Kätlin Riidebach and Ain Villau made a strong start at the Milan Cortina Paralympic Games by winning their opening match against Great Britain's pair of Joanna Butterfield and Jason Kean with a score of 10-7. In a closely contested game, both teams exchanged points early on, but Estonia seized control in the fourth end with a steal that put them ahead 5-2. Despite a challenging power play where they lost points to the British team, Estonia managed to regain their momentum in the seventh end, scoring three points and entering the final end with an 8-7 lead.

In the last end, although Great Britain had the last stone advantage, Estonia's solid strategy paid off as they effectively defended against their opponents' attempts to score. Great Britain struggled to navigate past Estonia’s defenses, allowing the Estonian team to steal an additional two points, ultimately concluding the match in their favor. This victory marks a significant achievement for the Estonian curling team as they compete in the mixed doubles event, which is being held at the Winter Paralympics for the first time.

The mixed doubles tournament features eight mixed teams, all vying for Paralympic glory, including competitors from Great Britain, Italy, South Korea, Japan, China, Latvia, and the USA. Under the guidance of coach Aleks, the Estonian team aims to build on their winning momentum as they navigate through this highly competitive event. The performance of Riidebach and Villau not only highlights their skill but also brings attention to Estonia's emerging presence in winter Paralympic sports.
