"It's a place of a lot of psychological torture," says Argentine gendarme about the prison in Venezuela

Argentine gendarme Nahuel Gallo, recently released from Venezuelan prison, described the facility as a site of severe psychological torture.

Nahuel Gallo, an Argentine gendarme who was detained for 448 days in Venezuela, described his experience in Rodeo 1 prison as extremely troubling, labeling it a "place of psychological torture." During his first press conference after returning to Argentina, he expressed that he is not yet ready to disclose the full extent of his experiences, underscoring the psychological toll the confinement had on him.

Gallo, who was part of a group that included officials from the Argentinian Football Association during his release, highlighted the grim conditions and hinted at the broader issues surrounding the treatment of prisoners in Venezuela. He also made a plea for the release of 24 other foreign detainees with whom he shared his imprisonment, demonstrating his concern for their well-being and the injustices they face.

His remarks shed light on the deteriorating human rights situation in Venezuela, especially regarding the treatment of prisoners, adding to the growing international scrutiny of the country’s penal system. Gallo's statements may contribute to discussions about potential diplomatic actions or humanitarian interventions on behalf of those still detained in similar circumstances.
