Israel: $3 billion in economic losses due to the Iran war weekly

Israel's Ministry of Finance estimates that the economic losses from the ongoing conflict with Iran could exceed $2.9 billion weekly due to severe restrictions.

On Wednesday, the Israeli Ministry of Finance announced that the economic losses stemming from the Israeli-American war on Iran may be as high as 9 billion shekels, approximately $2.9 billion, each week. The current high level of restrictions, classified as 'red', has significantly limited movement to workplaces, resulted in school closures, and triggered the mobilization of reserve soldiers. The Ministry has requested the Home Front Command to transition to an 'orange' level, which would be less stringent and might reduce economic losses to 4.3 billion shekels per week.

The conflict escalated on Saturday when Israel and the United States began airstrikes against Iran, prompting a wave of Iranian retaliatory strikes towards Israel and other parts of the Middle East, which have also disrupted energy exports from Gulf countries. American and Israeli officials have noted that this military campaign could extend for several weeks, heightening the need for adjustments to manage the economic fallout.

As the situation develops, schools in Israel are set to remain closed throughout this week, with gatherings being restricted and most non-essential workforce activities prohibited. The ongoing conflict underscores the severe economic implications and the strain on domestic life, as measures taken to ensure safety significantly impact the regular functioning of the economy and public services, reflecting the deepening crisis caused by the war.
