The match started in favor of Panathinaikos as they scored twice within the first 15 minutes. The opener came in the 7th minute through a header from Gentve, following a free kick taken by Bakasetas. A second goal was quickly added in the 15th minute, as Renato found the net with a long-range shot after a pass from Tete. Although OFI fought back with a goal just before halftime, the momentum remained with Panathinaikos who displayed resilience in the second half.
