'If it's true, it's nonsense,' says Francisco Egas about allegations of document forgery in the FEF electoral process

Francisco Egas, president of the Ecuadorian Football Federation (FEF), reacted to allegations of document forgery related to the upcoming electoral process for the FEF.

Francisco Egas, the incumbent president of the Ecuadorian Football Federation (FEF) and a candidate for re-election, commented on recent allegations regarding the falsification of documents submitted during the electoral process of the federation. The allegations have been formally lodged with the Prosecutor's Office, and Egas expressed his ignorance on the matter, stating that if the accusations are true, they would indeed be 'nonsense.' Egas made these remarks while attending a business event in Quito on March 4th.

The upcoming elections for a new board of directors for the FEF are scheduled for March 17. Egas's candidacy has been officially registered by the Electoral Tribunal, while his opponent Esteban Paz's list was rejected. This development highlights the contentious nature of the electoral process within the FEF, with confidence and transparency now under scrutiny due to the allegations of wrongdoing.

The complaint was filed by a citizen named Carlos Wilmer Galarza Guzmán, who claims that there may be irregularities such as digital file alterations, questions regarding signatures and documentation submitted, as well as possible conflicts of interest regarding the candidates. The allegations, if substantiated, could have serious implications for the integrity of the FEF and its leadership elections, raising concerns among stakeholders and football fans alike.
