The PTAC urges travelers to contact airlines regarding flight cancellations to Middle Eastern countries
The PTAC advises travelers to contact their airlines or tour operators about refund policies and travel changes due to canceled flights to the Middle East.
The Consumer Rights Protection Centre (PTAC) of Latvia has issued a notice for travelers to reach out to airlines or travel operators concerning canceled flights and trips to Middle Eastern countries. This advice follows the disruption of travel amidst ongoing global events, prompting concerns among travelers. PTAC emphasizes the importance of understanding refund procedures and the implications of canceling travel arrangements in these contexts.
According to PTAC, if a travel operator cancels a package travel agreement prior to the trip's commencement, the operator must refund all payments made by the traveler. This refund should be processed within 14 days from the cancellation notice. This provision ensures that consumers are protected against unexpected cancellations that are not their fault. Furthermore, travelers are urged to communicate with their respective providers to clarify these conditions and secure their rights in the event of trip disruptions.
On the other hand, if a traveler decides to cancel their trip voluntarily for subjective reasons, such as concerns about the destination, they are not entitled to a refund for the non-commenced trip. Instead, they must pay a reasonable cancellation fee as per the contract's terms. There are exceptions when unavoidable and emergency circumstances arise in or around the destination that significantly affect the travels. PTACβs guidance is critical in navigating these complex scenarios, ensuring travelers are aware of their rights and available options during times of uncertainty.
