Destruction of aircraft, control tower, and runway: Extensive damage at Iranian Tabriz airport
Recent airstrikes by Israel have caused significant damage to Tabriz airport in northwestern Iran, destroying critical infrastructure including a control tower and runway.
Recent satellite images have revealed the extensive damage inflicted on Tabriz airport in northwestern Iran as a result of Israeli airstrikes targeting its infrastructure. The analysis of images taken showed over ten deep craters caused by the bombing, rendering the airport completely non-operational. These strikes underscore the strategic significance of Tabriz airport, which plays a key role in Iran’s air capabilities.
The satellite imagery also documented the destruction of a control tower adjacent to the main runway, along with damage to an aircraft that was stationed in a designated parking area. This incident follows an announcement by an Israeli military spokesperson on March 1 that claimed two Iranian fighter jets, the F-4 and F-5, were targeted while ready for takeoff at the airport which Israel asserts was part of a campaign to impair Iran’s air force capabilities and defense systems.
This bombing represents the second attack on Tabriz airport within a year, highlighting the ongoing tensions and hostilities in the region. The repeated targeting of such strategic locations raises concerns over the implications for regional security and Iran’s military operations, as it reinforces the narrative of Israeli efforts to undermine Iranian military assets in order to safeguard its national interests in the Middle East.
